Blog 11/12: The end12/14/2022 Due to work in week 11 and 12 being connected I have decided to put them together to make it easier to talk about. In week 11 I started to plan the big video I was working on and got some more footage for it. I also started working on my final project slides which are now finished. That is about it for week 11 because I really didn't do as much as I needed too. Week 12 is when I started to actually get to work with creating my final masterpeice and also get the final preperations for my project done. First things first I wanted to create one last big video to try and get a video I was truly proud of. So I went into my editing software with my footage and tried to start with my work. Then disaster struck, all of the footage I had been collecting for almost 3 weeks was completly corrupted to the point where I couldn't even open the video. All of that hard work was gone in an instant and there was nothing I could do about it. Defeated, I went on to make a video for the final project which would be a small compilation of clips from an older video. Originally I wanted clips from every video but if I did that it would be too long so I stuck with my favorite video that I created. I took the parts I thought were the most funny and put them into a small 2 minute video to make it easy to digest. After that I needed to put the video on YouTube so I could put it on the slides. Here is where there is a problem though, the school has blocked YouTube making it very annoying to get videos on a slide. To get around this I had to go on my personal computer so I could try putting it in there. No luck, as the restrictions stayed on the account so I could not put the YouTube link on the slides. So I instead put the video file on my google drive to then place it directly in the slides. This hopefully worked and I will be able to show that video with the class. This entire project was full of setbacks and stupid things happening so I am happy to say that it is finally over.

Blog post 10: Not special yet12/7/2022 I’ll be honest I’m not proud of how little I truly accomplished this week. The idea I had last week worked with some downsides, but it did work.
This week I decided I wanted to record a bunch for a mega-final video for this project. I recorded only twice which was not great because I didn’t get nearly enough footage for the video I wanted. Not to mention the moving of the video files takes around 20 minutes for one video which means I have 20 minutes before I can record again. This is an issue because it means back-to-back recordings are not possible. The recording did go as planned though, and I can get parts out of it. The issue is that I still don’t have enough footage for a full video. I want a video that is less than 20 minutes but more than 10 because I would say that is the perfect length. The editing would be easier because the clips would be chosen because I could edit something with them. As I said I didn’t do much this week but I can tell you that I am thinking about doing a compilation of all the best parts of all the videos I recorded over these 12 weeks. Blog 9: A little different11/30/2022 This week I truly didn’t do much except play Minecraft. I also kinda didn’t do very well in editing but I am thinking of changing my way of gathering video footage and editing. I will explain what I am thinking of in a bit. This week I decided instead of going back to Payday I would play Minecraft with my friend Lukas who is in Brazil. I decided to do Minecraft because Lukas randomly messaged me asking if I wanted to play Minecraft so I took advantage of this to record. We went onto a server and started playing mini-games and attempting to create an actually good video. Now after we finished recording I went right to bed and didn’t think about the video until the morning. When I woke up I procrastinated and didn’t start editing the video, I didn’t even start that day. It took me until the next afternoon to start editing the video because I procrastinated so much. Due to my being very lazy I just edited down the video length and didn’t really add any extra edits. I am not happy with this video and I feel really bad because it should’ve been good and I feel like I let Lukas down. Now, about my idea on how to change how I get footage and edit my video. I have come up with the oh-so-glorious idea, “What if I just stopped the footage and put what I had onto my SSD card?”. This very obvious idea didn’t strike me until now for some reason and I feel quite stupid for not thinking of it. That was the footage part so what about the editing? Well, I am now going to be able to record a bunch of footage and cut only the funny parts out of that footage to make much better videos. It will come at the cost of more time but I don’t care as I want to make a video that I am truly proud of. Overall this week was very uneventful but my obvious revelation could be a pretty good turn for the best. I hope that the next video will be much better than the last few because I have a clear goal in mind.

Blog 8: Spooky and Scary11/22/2022 This week I decided to put a little more work into my videos because I wasn’t happy with the types of edits that I was making. I also got a friend of mine to create a thumbnail in photoshop which turned out to be a very good idea. This week the boys and I decided to play a different game than we’d been playing before. This game is “Inside the Backrooms” which is a horror game so there is screaming, cursing, and a few soiled pantaloons. We decided to play it because my friend Will (he also was the one who made the thumbnail) got his game working so we went to play it. I decided to record because I thought it would make great content. While playing the game it turned out that it was in fact scary and I quickly realized that editing out every slip of the mouth would literally be impossible. So I put a disclaimer at the beginning of the video that there would be cursing and scary moments. We were able to play for about 40 minutes until one of the boys had to go so we didn’t get very far. Even though we didn’t get very far we still had fun and I’d say it turned out to be a good video. After that, a few of my friends stayed on the call for a bit and created the glorious thumbnail which would be used for the video. After this I was tired so I went to bed. The next morning I procrastinated for about 3 hours before finally getting out of bed and editing the video. While editing the video I decided to spend more time on editing the video seeing as I had some more time than the last time I was editing. I put a lot more effort into the editing of this video than any others and I’m hoping to do more editing in the future. I think this video turned out to be one of the best so far but I am hoping to do better. Anyway next week it will most likely be more Payday but who knows, we could do more Backrooms shenanigans. Like and Subscribe please as I am certain there will be another video out this week. No seriously please I like fake internet points

Blog 7: Tragedy11/15/2022 This week I was working on a great new video which would’ve been very entertaining. In the process of recording that video, there was a hiccup which I will get into later in this blog.
So on Wednesday after school, my friend Green and I got together to record a video of Payday. At first, it was just us, and honestly, we weren’t getting much out of the recording. Eventually, a bunch of people joined the call and the recording was looking up. While I and Green were playing Payday my friend Adam joined the call and informed us that he had just finished tanning a hide and would give us a step-by-step on how. Adam then went on to tell us in excruciating detail how you tan a hide for like 5 minutes and while he was talking absolutely no one else was speaking. After he finished the explanation on tanning he went on to tell us how to skin a squirrel and after that how to skin a deer. It was entertaining and I could’ve made a pretty good video from it.

Blog 6: New video finally11/2/2022 This week I was able to test out this editing software that I found. With some delays and a few hiccups, I was able to get a video out and posted. I think that the video turned out ok if not a little lengthy. The editing software which I have now is VSDC which does its job but it has some quirks. In the other software cutting a clip is very simple and the button is easily found. In VSDC I had to go into a tab that was all the way at the top with a button called “Editor”. Because of this, I had to reference the video guide which I had opened in a google tab while editing. After that issue, I spent about an hour editing the video mostly just cutting out downtime and loading screens. I was going to do more but I needed to do something so I went to save what I had done and exited the tab. Unfortunately, I didn’t press the button which actually would save the video so all of my progress was deleted. So I had to then spend another hour getting back to where I was and in the end. I didn’t add any fun edits because it was 8 o'clock (I started around 5) and it takes 2 hours to post a video on YouTube. So I was up until 10 at night uploading the video to YouTube. I should also mention that I am showing all of my friends the videos so in the comments you likely will see my friends. Another thing is that I created a thumbnail that isn’t completely awful, the last two were on purpose. In the video, we were “doing the funny breaking bad” so I decided to put Walter White with Dallas’ mask. Anyways, please watch the new video I spent a lot of time creating it and it was fun I still suffered a lot creating it.

Blog 5: Things are looking up10/31/2022 I am going to try on Monday to ask Mr. Barker if the editing software was free or not because I could’ve sworn it was free. The website said it was free, and when I looked up free editing software it said it was free, and Mr. Barker said it was free. I really hope that at some point I will finally have good software that I can use and not worry about it just not working on me. So last week I had issues with editing software and was worried that I wouldn’t have a way to edit my videos. Due to that scare, I put in some of my own research and actually found a good editing software that I will be using. Also, I have given up streaming as YouTube streaming is kinda weird and I don’t understand it. The video software which I have started to use is VSDC which I found by looking up on YouTube free editing software. I ended up watching a tutorial video from the channel that I found the software from which enlightened me on how the software works. It also reassured me that I would likely not have issues with it stopping on me because it’s a free trial. On that note, I also recorded but am yet to have edited a video for this week. In the video, my friends and I decided to do the funny breaking bad heist and cook lots of meth. I decided that we should do a loud heist because the last video was a stealth heist which is really only half of what Payday 2 is. Ok, disclaimer the recipe that is used in-game is actually just salt water, not meth the developers didn’t want to get a lawsuit for showing how to actually cook meth.
Now, because I wanted to do something stupid I decided to make a build around one of the worst guns in the game, the AMCAR. This gun is so absolutely bad that it wraps around to being fun. Due to me knowing the ins and outs of Payday I was able to make the gun’s stats from horrible to kinda meh. During the heist, you can see I do fairly well because I’m very good at the game and know these heists like the back of my hand. Hopefully, with the new editing software, I can finally start making videos weekly and get good at one software. Oh, and you should expect there to maybe be a video of me and my friends on Halloween because we are very proud of our costumes.

Blog 4: Back in the thick of it10/22/2022 Oh boy here we go, this week I have learned something that really annoyed me. I learned that the editing software that I used which I thought was free was actually just a free trial and I can no longer use it. This is an issue as I now don’t have good editing software that could work. I have a few ideas of what to do but not much that could easily work. My first idea is to attempt to use the first editing software on my phone. The same issue still applies as when I tried the first time so I would have to find some way around it. Throughout this entire process, I have had an issue with storage and it keeps propping up. I thought it would be fixed through the SSD drive but it wasn’t because the SSD was awful. I hopefully will be fixing that by getting a new computer for myself but that is a long-term solution that will not affect this project. I still need to post something for my YouTube so I have decided that I will try streaming on YouTube today. This stream will be unedited of course but you will likely see a raw view of how I make my videos. This of course means there will likely be some cursing slip-ups, but it’s an unedited video what do you expect? Hopefully, this band aid solution will suffice, and maybe later if I get new editing software I will edit the stream down to a more watchable experience. I will try and get Green to play with me but he might be asleep as I think he was up all night playing other games.
I am going to try on Monday to ask Mr. Barker if the editing software was free or not because I could’ve sworn it was free. The website said it was free, and when I looked up free editing software it said it was free, and Mr. Barker said it was free. I really hope that at some point I will finally have good software that I can use and not worry about it just not working on me.

Blog 3: Things go well10/18/2022 This week things went fairly well unlike the last two weeks which means I can go more into what I was doing and not the problems stopping me from doing what I wanted. Despite my not getting as much done, what I did get done was very important and will lead me into doing more. The First thing I will go into is that I was able to finally get good editing software that worked and didn’t have some huge issue that made it unusable. The editing process that I go through is fairly simple though I didn’t have enough time to fully do it with the last video. First I will go through the entire video and take out parts that I don’t think would do very well in the video. Next, I will look back and do little edits to make the video just a little more entertaining for the viewer. After I think I am finished with the video then I will put it on my drive and prepare to upload it to YouTube. My second favorite part of the process would be the making of the thumbnail. The software I use is none other than Google draw which plays perfectly into the design philosophy of my thumbnails. I try to make my thumbnails so purposefully bad that it’s funny and therefore catches your attention so you will watch it. When making the thumbnail I first get a background image and then look in my meme folder then and add whatever stock image I can find, yeah it’s not that complicated it takes me less than 5 minutes. The only other thing that I can talk about is the video recording itself which I covered in the other blogs. What I will always do is get my friends together to make the recording actually enjoyable as I think a video is much more watchable if there are other people in the recording having fun and making jokes with you. My friends and I try to filter ourselves when playing a game but it’s not always easy when you’re getting surrounded by enemies at the end of a level, so there are a few slip-ups. This week was a week where I have not that much to talk about but to me, that is a good thing because that means not much went wrong and therefore I didn’t suffer as much making my videos. Perhaps next week I can talk specifically about what I was doing in the video and my thought process on the editing of that specific video.

Blog 2: Before it gets better, it gets worse10/18/2022 Last week I went on a lengthy rant about all the issues that I ran into while trying to get everything to work. You may also remember my last remark about how I knew that I would have even more issues, turns out that I was right. Before I go into the issues let us go into what went right, which wasn’t much. The first thing was getting everyone together in a call which didn’t take long. The second thing was that the recording worked fairly well, that’s about all. The first issues came in the game I was playing which some I didn’t notice until the editing process. The first issue is that at the point in the game we were at, we had to split up due to not everyone owning the DLC therefore not being able to play the levels in multiplayer. The next was with sound. The game starts with the sound being incredibly loud to the point where it is hard to hear people. I eventually fixed this but a good portion of the video had this problem. The next was with the characters, specifically their language. The characters that you play are robbers, the bad guys, so they don’t have the best language in the world so I had to edit out as much as I could. The next issues arose in editing and boy were there a few. The first problem that showed its ugly head was that the editing software I was going to use was on my phone. At first, this didn't seem like an issue but the video file was just too large for it to fit on my phone so I had to find a new one. I ended up going to Filmora Wondershare which seemed to work well. The software was simple to learn and easy to use so I spent the next hour and a half editing the video and figuring out what I wanted. Then I learned about the next issue after you edit your video Filmora will plaster its watermark all over your video making it unwatchable. So I got the video out but it just sucks for all of the reasons that I talked about here. In conclusion, technology will never work when you want it to and it sucks. Hopefully, I will be recording a new video soon and I got a new editing software (Thank you Mr. Barker) which hopefully will work. I was going to record me and the boys playing a horror game but it seems one of us was stupid and got himself grounded so we will be doing more Payday 2. So anyways, like and subscribe to my YouTube.
Oh and just because here is the full picture of my thumbnail, I’m very proud |
